INCREASING CAPACITY OF SCHOOL PROFESSIONALS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS AND RESOURCES
attended workshops to improve mental health literacy this year in Nanaimo, Terrace, Port Hardy, Ashcroft, and Mackenzie, BC.
I liked the wide array of teacher friendly resources. LOVED hearing from the youth. Really appreciate the personal story.
I felt I gained a lot this evening that is directly usable in my work with students.
Tailored workshops across BC presented valuable resources including the Stop Wondering, Start Knowing: A Mental Health Video Resource for Schools. The workshops also featured provincial resources including the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre and Foundrybc.ca, information on local community mental health resources, discussions and the personal story of a youth with lived experience. Thank you to the Patrick and Barbara Keenan Foundation for supporting this knowledge exchange.
The Stop Wondering, Start Knowing Mental Health Video Resource for Schools was updated this year to align with the provincial mental health initiative, Foundrybc.ca. This resource contains a facilitation guide, video stories from youth with lived experience with mental health challenges, and links to additional resources. Stop Wondering, Start Knowing continues to be promoted and shared as a resource that aligns with the new BC school curriculum mental health competencies.
Achieving the vision
School is an ideal setting for developing skills and tools for positive mental health. The Mental Health Literacy Team has developed resources to support BC teachers to include mental health information and tools in the classroom and provided in person education and support.
